Steps To Take To Set Sage Line 50 Ready For Use

After you have converted your data files, Sage Line 50 verifies your data. If there are no errors reported it is essential that you follow the steps outlined below.

If any errors are reported do not proceed any further, telephone the Sage Helpline on 0845 111 55 55 to find out how to continue. Users from the Republic of Ireland should telephone 01 6420877.

Important Notes: If you use the Cheques option in version 5.00, please ensure you complete your final cheque run BEFORE installing version 8. If you do not complete your cheque run, you will not be able to print these cheques after upgrading. This does not affect users upgrading from version 5.01.

If you have used the Currency option in previous version 5.00 or 5.01, you must re-enter your currency details before you start using your new Sage Line 50 v8 program. For further information on entering your currency details, refer to the on-line help.

1.   Print out the Convert log.

Print out the convert log report and follow the steps outlined in that report to set your Sage program ready for use.

2.   Read the Readme File.

3.   Read about Sage Line 50 Version 8 New Features.

Find out about all the new features you have in your new Sage program.

4.   Check your Profit and Loss Report.

If you do not have any Direct Expense categories in your Profit and Loss Report set these up now.

The Gross Profit/Loss is classed as a footnote of the Direct Expenses section of the Profit and Loss, therefore, you must include valid descriptions and nominal codes in the Direct Expenses section of this report to print out the correct Gross Profit/Loss value.

5.   Set the Number of Users.

Your new Sage program has been tried and tested with up to 4 users processing simultaneously. Although the maximum number of users can be increased we recommend that no more than 10 users are logged onto the program at the same time.

6.   Access Rights.

The first time you start your new Sage Line 50 program you must enable the Access Rights option, and then set up the individual user log on names you want.

Each user that accesses the program is required to have a unique log on which enables better administration of the network program and improved security. The use of a User List option plays a major part in these areas.

You cannot log on to different machines using the same user name. For example, if you log on to one machine as "John" you must use a different name to log on to another machine.

For further information about how to do this see Access Rights.

If you had access rights set up in your previous Sage program and you have upgraded from a program lower in the Line 50 range to Sage Line 50 version 8, you must set up your access rights now to activate the new options in your new program.

For further information about how to do this see Access Rights.

7.   Backup your data.

Take a backup using the automatic facility within the program, either by choosing the Backup option from the Data menu, or by selecting Exit from the File menu. For further details see To Back Up Your Data

Your new program is now ready to use.
